More Soul in the Soul Shack

Even though the Soul Shack Studio is brand-spanking new, it is getting some upgrades that are all about separation.  In order to get good, clean sounds, Jeff is constructing an Amp Room to separate the bass and guitar amps from the main studio, as well as a vocal booth, complete with padded walls and new mic stands.

We’ve already had several groups come and record, and currently Voodoo King is laying down some tracks.  Word has it that Jeff has hit the nail on the head (or should I say hit the stick on the cymbal…) when it comes to a great drum sound.

Painting Day!

The Sheetrock is done, the sanding behind us…today is painting day. Primer is done, Jeff is doing a superb job on the ceiling. Mandy is standing by to do the final wall coat. Discussions are occurring about the carpet and the completion of the drum window. The band is very excited at the progress that had been made this week…there is a light at the end of the tunnel!!

The Soul Shack Shimmies

Busy couple of days in “The Shack”. A big thank to Al “bass player” Blanton for taking on the nasty task of insulation. The Lowe’s truck (huge) arrived this morning with sheetrock, and Jeff and birthday boy Ricky are installing. Jeff and Mandy built the frame for the drum-viewing window and it has been painted JGB blue.

Construction Continues on the Soul Shack Studio

Not only do the fans support the Jeff Gates Band by attending shows, purchasing band stuff and spreading the word of good music, but they also donate their time and sweat.  Check out Mike Dale…he shows up to the Shack in a large work van full of useful tools and…A DOOR!! Yay, Mike!!  He and Jeff hung the door, decided what materials were needed next and took off to Lowe’s.  I can now hear the sounds of saws, nail guns and the occassional outburst that goes along with hard, physical labor.
Back inside the cool house, I on the other hand, have ordered all the necessary electronics to make this studio rock and roll. I am excited at the prospect of re-learning how to use a Mac and starting from scratch on a brand new software (for me, anyway)–ProTools. I am even thinking about getting one of those neon guitar wall clocks I saw at Big Lots…
